Raffaele Landolfo was born in Naples, Italy, on September 18th, 1962. He graduated cum laude in Civil Engineering at the University of Naples in 1987 where, subsequently, gained a PhD in Structural Engineering (1992). He has been serving as Full Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II” since 2003. Prof. Landolfo is engaged in several institutional activities at the University of Naples. Among the others, he was Head of the Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture from 2013 to 2018 and Head of the Department of Constructions and Mathematical Methods in Architecture from 2007 to 2013. He is member of Academic Senate of University as representative of the chairman of the School of Sciences and Technologies, since 2008; delegate of the Rector for the “Structures” within the mandate for “Improvement of Cultural Heritage of the University and for the Historical Centre” since 2010; delegate of the President of the School of Sciences and Technologies for the following topics: building construction, road system and management of the School of Sciences and Technologies, since 2005. As for the activities in institutions and international organizations, he is convenor of Working Group 2 (WG2) – Steel and Composite Structures- within CEN/TC250/SC8 Committee; Chairman of the ECCS Technical Committee n.13 - Seismic Design- since 2007; member of the Technical Management Board (TMB) of the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS), since 2007; corresponding member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Task Committee 9 – Seismic, since 2012; chairman of the Council of Italian Steel Technicians, (2012-2014). He gives first and second level master classes in the field of steel structures and seismic design and was the Italian coordinator of the European Erasmus Mundus Master “Sustainable Constructions under Natural Hazards and Catastrophic Events “. His research activity involves the participation in several national and international research projects. He is coordinator of the project PERICLES, funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) within the 2015 Call for Research Projects of National Interest (PRIN). He coordinated the project “EQUALJOINTS”, European pre-QUALified steel JOINTS, RFSRCT2013-00021, and served as Chairman the Working Group 3 within the European project COST Action C25 “Sustainability of Constructions: Integrated approach to Life-time Structural Engineering”. Prof. Landolfo was also coordinator of several research units within the following European research projects: ELISSA, Energy Efficient Lightweight-sustainable –Safe-Steel Construction, FP7-2013-NMP-ENV-EeB; LVS3 Large Valorisation on Sustainability of Steel Structures. RFS2-CT-2013-00016; DiSTEEL, “Displacement Based Design of STEEL Moment Resisting Frame Structures”, Research Fund for Coal and Steel, contract n. RFSR-CT-2010-00029; HSSERF, “High Strength Steel in SEismic Resistant building Frames”, contract No. RFSR-CT-2009-00024.He published a book and more than 300 scientific papers, mainly on national and international journals, on topics related to metal structures and seismic design. He is structural designer of several steel structures including the space structure of Malpensa airport in Milan (in cooperation) and the steel structures of the extension of the Architectural Faculty in Pescara.
